Durex Elite Condoms – an expert review
Durex Elite condoms are the best selling condom in the UK. Why? There are a lot of reasons. Durex is the best know brand of condoms and plays a large factor in why the elite condom is so well liked. Is Durex the best brand? I’ll answer that question later in this review, when I compare Durex with some of the other well known brands in the UK.
The elite condom is 52mm in girth* and as such fits a larger section of the population. 52mm appears to be the average condom width suitable for the average penis width. I say appears because, surprisingly very few studies have been carried out on penis size. And, those that have are very flawed. Some studies have taken volunteers from the street. Only a percentage of men were able to produce an erection for measurement under these circumstances. We can’t assume that the results of such a study, especially when you take the willingness of the individual to volunteer and the possible correlation with penis size and this factor, are not biased towards larger figures.
The elite condom has a shaped head and this, in our option (and we are experts here at 12 Condoms), is very important for comfort and sensitivity. Getting the right balance between sensitivity and security in a condom is the key to producing the perfect condom. The more it feels like you are not wearing a condom and just having sex without a condom the better the condom is.
If you asked me to recommend a condom to you and I knew nothing about you – penis length, girth and shape, allergies, piercings, etc. Then I would have to recommend the Durex elite condom. It is the condom that is most likely to suit your needs; statistically speaking that is. This is perhaps why it is the most popular and best selling condom in the UK.
But, what is the best for you?
Let’s take John Smith as an example. John Smith, like every other man on the planet has a slightly different shaped penis to everyone else, and every time he is aroused and gets an erection it varies a bit. If John always had exactly the same erection we could make the perfect condom just for him, so that the latex (or other material) just touched the skin of his penis with only just enough and equal pressure all over, so that it did not fall off. Of course we can’t do that as it costs tens of thousand of pounds to produce the moulds and equipment to manufacture a condom.
So what can John do? If he’s in a hurry and hasn’t really thought about it, he would be best off picking up some Durex Elite (from 12 Condoms of course
and getting on with the business of having sex with his partner as soon as possible. If John has a few minutes to spare and wants the sexual fun of going those the process of measuring his penis and trying a variety of different condoms, then he will almost certainly find better condom for him than just picking one at random – it could be the Durex elite, but the chances are it won’t be.
We would recommend that you experiment with different condoms and start by getting your partner to measure your penis (or measure his) – starting with the Durex Elite is a good bet, but try as many different condoms as you can.
What else does the Durex Elite condom have going for it other than a shaped head and an average width?
Well, the Elite has a soft gossamer finish to the latex and more lubricant than many condoms. These two attributes make the condom more comfortable and more sensitive.
Conclusions about Elite
We have to take our hats of to Durex. In developing and producing the Elite condom they have done a great deal to improve the average experience of sex in the UK – it’s a great thing to help put so many smiles on so many faces!
Is Durex the best Brand?
All condoms have about the same failure rate in preventing pregnancy and protecting against sexually transmitted diseases. All condoms sold in the UK are required by law to have the CE kite mark. If you see some that don’t – don’t buy them. Other well known brands include: Pasnate (great quality UK company), Mates (launched by Richard Branson), Safex (big in France as Manex), Condomi (german), Protex (French and latex free), Trojan (largest in US), EXS (great quality UK company). A lot of the time people buy Durex because they have the leading brand and have been around longer. We would urge you to find the right condom size and shape for you. The quality is pretty similar between brands and all meet the stringent EC standards. Worry less about brand, you are well protected from second rate manufactures in the UK. That is not the case in many counties outside Europe and the US and we would recommend taking your favourite condoms with you on holiday or for trips abroad.

*Condom girth is a strange measurement. Condom girth is actually condom width it is measured based on a condom lying flat (i.e. not on a mans penis). So twice condom width as specified by Durex is what you should be comparing with the girth or circumference of you or your partners penis.
